Gangotri is a venerated Hindu pilgrim site located on the Greater Himalayan Range, 3,100 feet above sea level. This town lies on the banks of the Bhagirathi River and is one of four destinations in India’s traditional Char Dham pilgrimage circuit. The Bhagirathi River transforms into the Ganga at Devprayag, where it joins with the Alaknanda. Hindus believe that Goddess Ganga reincarnated as a river in order to absolve King Bhagiratha’s ancestors of their sins; the source of the holy river is believed to be Gaumukh Glacier.

It is home to one of the holiest Hindu temples, attracting pilgrims from all corners of the world, steeped in history associated with Mahabharata era and when Pandavas performed penance to please Lord Shiva. There are two ways to access Kedarnath – a 14 km trek along a paved path or helicopter service.

Badrinath is a significant Hindu pilgrimage site, and one of four across India collectively referred to as Char Dham. Established by Adi Shankara in the ninth century, the town has seen its popularity soar over recent years; with 600,000 pilgrims visiting during 2006 compared to just 90,676 reported in 1961. Badrinath has been revered for thousands of years amongst Hindus; the Bhagavata Purana (3.4.22) even paying testament to this – “There in Badrikashram the supreme being (Vishnu), in his incarnation as the sages Nara and Narayana, had been undergoing great penance since time immemorial for the welfare of all living entities.”

Itinerary

Day 1 07:00 AM Dehradun to Yamunotri

Morning 07:00 hrs departure from Sahastradhara Helipad, Dehradun to Kharsali. 0745 hrs arrival at Kharsali Helipad, Yamunotri. After meet & greet proceed for Darshan 6 kms trek by Palki ,approx 5 hour 30 min and then return back to Hotel by lunch time. Later proceed to visit Shani Temple which is near to your Hotel – Night stay at Yamunotri.

Day 2 07:45 Hrs Yamunotri to Gangotri

07:45 hrs departure from Yamunotri, Kharsali Helipad .Arrival at 0930 hrs Harsil Helipad, Gangotri. Proceed to Gangotri Temple for Darshan which is 22 kms/ 55 mints drive from Harsil Helipad. After darshan return to Hotel. Overnight stay at Gangotri.

Day 3 09:00 Hrs Gangotri to Kedarnath – Guptkashi

09:00 hrs departure from Harsil Helipad, Gangotri and arrive Kedarnath Helipad by 1000 hrs.
First you reach Sersi Helipad from Gangotri, here after changing the chopper then you will fly for Kedarnath Helipad. Temple distance is approx. 500 Meters from the helipad, which can be covered in 15 min approx. Once Darshan will completed, take the shuttle to Sersi and will return to Guptkashi by drive. (As there are no good hotel options to stay in Kedarnath ). In the evening, visit ancient Triyuginarayana or Kalimath Mandir – Overnight stay at Guptkashi.

Day 4 10:00 Hrs Guptkashi – Badrinath

10:00 hrs Departure from Sersi Helipad, Guptkashi and arrive Badrinath Helipad at 1100 hrs. After arrival proceed to the famous Badrinath Temple which is approx. 50 ft ( 15 mtrs.) tall with a small cupola on top , covered with a gold gilt roof .In the evening, visit Mana Village which is near to religious site of Badrinath Ji . All passengers can avail Special Maha Abhishek Puja , next day 4 Am for 2 hrs . This special puja ,is the highlight of the entire yatra and cherish the darshan of the Shringar of the deity from close quarters. Overnight stay at Badrinath.

Day 5 11:30 Hrs Badrinath to Dehradun

11:30 hrs departure from Badrinath Helipad to Sahasradhara Helipad, Dehradun. After breakfast depart from Badrinath to Dehradun for onward journey with wonderful memories and lots of blessings. Tour Concludes.

Char Dham follows a fixed sequence that always starts from the West and ends at East, which means Chardham starts from Yamunotri, next proceed to Gangotri, Kedarnath and ends at Badrinath.

First decide your dates, number of members, and an approximate budget for the whole trip. You can do Chardham by any travel company or by own. If you want to do Chardham by own then, pre-book your hotels and transport at least 2-3 months before arrival.

Travel to Kedarnath Dham is completely safe. But avoid traveling during the monsoon season which increases the chance of landslides and road blockage.

The Chardham Yatra by Helicopter Form Dehradun Ultimate Packages is a great value for the money. The hotel accommodations are very good and the meals are great. The transfers and sightseeing are also very good. All the tolls, taxes, parking, fuel and driver allowances are also included, which is a great bonus. Overall, I highly recommend this Tour.
